Salmon, bronze, a volcano
In autumn, chum salmon that have swum some two hundred kilometres up from the sea hold in the shallows of the Nakatsu river, in the middle of the city.
Some of the bronze finials on the railings of the Kaminohashi bridge carry the years 1609 and 1611.
From the Kaiun bridge, Mount Iwate, 2,038 metres, stands at the end of the river.
