Klára spent one October day here, all of it by the harbour: a canal in Christianshavn in the morning, the black granite of the library, the oak deck of the playhouse, a small ferry at sunset, and the opera roof at dusk.

Danish modern furniture

Danish modern furniture took shape in Copenhagen: Kaare Klint began teaching furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy in 1924, and from 1927 to 1966 the city's Cabinetmakers' Guild held a yearly exhibition where architects and cabinetmakers showed new pieces together. The city still has the makers' showrooms and dealers in original pieces from that time.
